One of the first books I read at the US Naval Academy was “First to Fight”. This is a great book on the history of the US Marine Corp and is a must-read for all marines. I was ready to go into the Marine Corps and follow my dad’s footsteps (he was in WWII and served on the west coast and pacific theatre as an aviation mechanic). This all changed during my junior year at the Naval Academy when visiting Pensacola was much more fun than drinking a keg in the mosquito-infested woods of Quantico, Virginia.
First to Fight has a chapter that tells the story of the MCRD boathouse. It is a great lesson in “how to innovate”. I will keep the curiosity high so you can go out and buy the book.
A “must-read” for everyone, this book tells a great history of the greatest fighting force on earth and a funny story on how they used “innovation” to get a boathouse built.
There will be additional tidbits on this great read. More to follow.
